Three TN Docs Under the Scanner for Leaving Surgical Napkin in Woman’s Abdomen
Three doctors in Tamil Nadu are facing a complaint of medical negligence after a surgical napkin found its way into the abdomen of a 30-year old woman who had undergone a caesarian section at the hospital nearly seven months ago.
The woman, named Ajitha, was operated at the Malligai Hospital in Tondiarpet back in February and had constantly complained of stomach pain. Her husband, Mahesh, said that though they told the doctors about the pain and vomiting, they ignored it.

“Ever since the operation, she did not breastfeed our baby. She constantly complained of pain in the stomach, vomiting and giddiness. We told the doctors but they ignored it for long”, he said.

She was taken to another hospital on Sunday where scans showed the presence of a “foreign” material which was then removed. However Ajitha is now in intensive care unit and her condition is said to be extremely critical. The Tondiarpet police confirmed that a case of medical negligence has been filed against three doctors, Dr Rajendran, Dr Shanthi and Dr Vasanthamani.
