
National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) was launched by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Bhagalpur. Smart cards were also distributed to few people on the inauguration day.
The scheme targets the underprivileged, those below poverty line working in the unorganized sectors. Such people would receive a health insurance cover of Rs.30,000 which would pay for their medical treatment and hospitalization expenses.
Central and state governments will jointly sponsor this expenditure on health insurance which will be supervised by a nodal agency.
