TempTraq Thermometer Patches for Hassle-free Measurement of Baby's Temperature

It has always been a difficult task to take a baby’s temperature with a thermometer through their ear. In a step to solve this, Blue Spark Technologies, a Westlake, Ohio company that makes flexible batteries, is introducing a solution at Consumer Electronics Show, to be held this year at Las Vegas, Nevada, called TempTraq that aims to usher in a new standard of taking temperatures.

The product TempTraq is a Bluetooth-enabled wireless adhesive patch thermometer that can be applied underneath a baby’s arms. The device is designed so that a 24 hour continuous monitoring of temperatures can be performed, allowing trend visualization to see if a fever is going up or down. The device can be used only once and it records temperatures between 86.0ºF and 108.3ºF and syncs the data to an iOS or Android device, up to 40 feet (12 meters) away.

To give parents a quick glimpse into how high the temperature actually is, the readings are color-coded and can also send notifications whenever the child’s temperature rises past a user-specified red zone. The app also has note-taking abilities to record when the child eats, drinks or takes medication. The data can be sent through email to family members or the family doctor. Also the application works fine if there are more than one sick kid, with multiple TempTraq patches. TempTraq is currently pending FDA 510(k) review, with availability and pricing expected later this year.
