Teenagers to be Banned from Visiting Tanning Salons
Soon teenagers will be banned from using UV tanning beds. Taking into consideration the risk of skin cancer among adolescent girls, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has urged this move. Previously the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Medical Association have already warned against the use of tanning beds. According to the official AAP policy statement, 50,000 licensed tanning salons currently operate in the US. They receive about 1 million visitors per day, out of which 70% are females.
At present melanoma is the second most common type of cancer among women aged 20-29years. According to a study, the risk of melanoma was 74% higher in people who tanned indoors using tanning beds, compared with those who did not use tanning beds. The risk of melanoma increases if people start tanning at a young age.

AAP wants to see tanning salons banning access to under 18-year teens across all states.
