Teen Gets Numb Fingers from Texting; to Undergo Surgery

by Rajshri on Mar 22 2010 8:44 PM

A 16-year old American teenager has lost feeling in both her hands and will have to undergo a surgery due to heavy texting on her cell phone.

Chicago’s Annie Levitz was in the habit of averaging around 100 SMSs a day but it has proved to be very costly after she was diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome. While the condition is often associated with people who constantly type on computer keyboard, Levitz’s excessive SMSs meant that the teenager is now forced to cut down her habit and wear braces on both her wrists.

“I started losing feeling in my hands and they'd go numb. I'd go to pick up dishes and things and they'd just fall out of my hands. Enough dishes were broken that my parents and I really started to notice and decided to see a doctor”, Levitz said, adding that she has now cut down the number to 50 SMSs a day and is thinking of buying an iPhone.
