TB Vaccine Policies On The Web
A new website that includes information about tuberculosis vaccination policies in more than 180 countries has been launched by Canadian researchers at McGill University.
Called the BCG World Atlas, it is supposed to be the first tool designed to help people travelling abroad, doctors, policymakers and researchers to find detailed information on TB vaccination policies and practices in different countries. This information would help in deciding whether the preliminary skin test is adequate or whether further blood tests are required and if so, the kind of tests that need to be done.

Information about a country’s policy on vaccination would help in deciding whether a medical report may be inaccurate because of an overuse of the Bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccine.

Canada has been alerted to the existence of the highly contagious disease by an epidemic outbreak in Nunavut, among aboriginal communities.

This project has been funded in part by the Public Health Agency of Canada.
