 Taiwan Has Seen 20,241 Dengue Cases Since May 2015, Situation is Now Moderating
Dengue, a mosquito-borne and potentially fatal disease, has affected for than 20,000 people in Taiwan since may 2015. It has been the worst outbreak of the disease in 17 years that mainly affects people in tropical and subtropical regions.
The island's disease control center reported, "Taiwan has seen 20,241 dengue cases since May 2015, although it is now moderating. The daily number of dengue fever cases confirmed in Tainan city, the most seriously affected area, has decreased for 10 consecutive days."

As of Saturday, there were 17,278 cases in Tainan and 2,636 in the neighboring city of Kaohsiung. A total of 16,879 patients have recovered from the disease, while five deaths were reported due to dengue in the past week.

53 dengue-infected patients were reported to be in intensive care on Saturday, October 3, 2015.
