Swiss Boffins Stumble On Melt-Resistant, Low-Calorie Chocolate!

Hurray! Dieters, who can't keep their hands off sweet treats, finally have a reason to rejoice: Swiss boffins have stumbled on the holy grail of chocolate, a recipe that is both melt-resistant and low-calorie.

The ultimate chocolate treat is a light and airy chocolate bar that has 90 per cent fewer calories than regular chocolate, reports The Sydney Morning Herald.

Brainchild of Swiss manufacturer Barry Callebaut, the cocoa-based confection is called Vulcano.

However, according to technicians working in the company laboratory, the low-cal chocolate resulted from a mistake.

Simon Cantz, a company food engineer, told Swiss television: "Suddenly we realised we'd produced a very special chocolate, of a crispy light consistency, like an airy foam, and we thought let's see if we can develop this further."

But wait, there's more happy news.

The makers insist that Vulcano doesn't taste like diet chocolates already available on the market.

Company spokesperson, Gaby Tschofen, said: "It's nice and chocolatey, with a strong aroma, and crispy rather than creamy. It does melt in the mouth, but it is the enzymes in the saliva rather than the heat of the tongue that causes it to dissolve."
