Swine Flu Claims Two Lives In Assam

Swine flu has claimed its second victim in Assam while five people have been tested positive for the H1N1 virus. A 56-year-old PWD employee hailing from Jorhat's Tarajan died at a nursing home in Dibrugarh last night.

"Of the five new cases of swine flu was an MBBS intern who is under observation in an isolation ward at the hospital," said, Dr. Nitulpal Bhattacharyy, Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH).

The Health Department of Jorhat has sounded a red alert in the state to implement effective measures to prevent the spread of swine flu.

"A special team of doctors and 24 trained nurses are always ready with medicines at the special isolation ward at the JMCH premises," said Dr. Bhattacharyy. He also added that the staff, students and employees of JMCH are advised to use mouth masks.
