 Swine Flu Claims 26 Lives in Jammu and Kashmir
Swine flu claims 26 lives and 482 tested positive for H1N1 in Jammu and Kashmir, revealed the State Government in Legislative Council.
In Jammu, 48 well equipped independent rooms are earmarked for H1N1 positive patients on the third floor of Colonel Chopra Nursing Home, Medical College. Similarly, a 32-bedded isolation wards made available for patients suffering from swine flu in SKIMS, Srinagar.

In response to the joint question by MLCs Ajay Sadhotra, Dharambir Singh, Dr Shehnaz Ganai and Mohammad Muzaffar Paray, the State Government has submitted a report in the Legislative Council that till March 25, a total of 8,665 healthcare workers were vaccinated to protect them from contracting H1N1 virus.

Choudhary Lal Singh, Minister of Health, said β€œ The flu is seen round the year occasionally but the first confirmed case was diagnosed at SKIMS on January 27. After the case was found positive action plan was framed to deal with the H1N1 influenza, which envisaged setting up of isolation wards in the tertiary hospitals as also district hospitals of the state.”

The department established round the clock, control rooms at Directorate of Health Services, Jammu and Srinagar.

β€œThe requirement of medicine and protective equipment of all health institutions was consolidated and an amount of Rs 30 lakh as additional fund was released to the health department for augmenting stock of medicine, and purchase of ventilators,” minister added.
