Swimming Proves to be a Blessing for Baby Boy With Half a Working Heart
Baby boy, Charlie Cobb, was born with half a working heart. Doctors gave him just 50% chance of survival.
Hours following his birth, he underwent life saving surgery. Yet, he suffered a heart attack due to a rare heart condition - hypoplastic left heart syndrome, where the left ventricle of the heart does not develop properly.

Doctors did not think he would survive. Yet, this baby has beaten the odds with the unflinching belief and support from his parents.

Charlie’s mom began to take him swimming a year ago and this has helped him immensely. According to her, running made him really breathless. Swimming has really helped him gain cardiovascular strength, even though he will always have only half a heart.

‘The doctors didn't think Charlie would wake up after the cardiac arrest and he was moved to the high dependency unit for three weeks before we were allowed to bring him home. He will always have half a heart, but he is just doing so well now. He's 17 months now and he's walking, talking, running around - and of course swimming,’ Charlie’s mom said.
