Sweet Shops Feel the Pinch After Raids
Ludhiana’s sweet makers were in a spot of bother on Wednesday as teams from health department conducted raids across the city, cracking down on the unhygienic conditions in the sweet shops.
More than 7.90 quintals of sweets were destroyed by the health ministry including rasgulla, petha and barfi. The first team was headed by district health officer Jagpal Singh, the second team by food inspector Rakhi Vinayak and the third team by senior medical officer Maninder who raided shops in Kohara and Samrala.

The health department said that many of the sweet shops had prior intimation of the raids with a number of shops closing down before the raids began. “Dr Maninder's team raided four sweet shops in Kohara and seven shops in Samrala. They raided all the major sweet shops in the area and destroyed 1 quintal 90 kg of sweets, including rasgulla, petha, barfi and other sweets”, Dr Uger Singh Sooch said.
