Purdue University scientists have developed a method to grow sweet potatoes in a smaller area without it affecting the quantity of produce, which could lead the way to growing such crops in space. This may be some good news to astronauts spending Thanksgiving in space who can now enjoy fresh sweet potatoes, one of the most traditional parts of the day’s feast.
“It turns out the vines are not really picky about what you do with them. As long as you leave the main shoot tip alone, you can remove the side shoots and trim them away without any yield loss,” scientists said.
