A new survey has found that 36 per cent of men and 56 per cent of women in UK are afraid of walking alone at night in their own neighbourhoods.
It also showed that 30 per cent of women and 34 per cent of men have either been victims of street crime or are aware of someone who has, reports the Sun.According to the survey, conducted for ITV1’s Tonight programme, three quarters of all those asked said that there are not enough policemen on the streets.
The survey was conducted after Home Secretary Jacqui Smith confessed that she does not feel safe walking in London alone when it gets dark.
The programme, which used celebrity reporters Carol McGiffin, of TV’s Loose Women, BBC radio presenter Shelagh Fogarty, and Saira Khan, an ex-Apprentice contestant, will be shown on a special edition of Tonight, Women In Fear.
