The reason why women who get pregnant after egg donation have to be categorized as high-risk patients is explained in a new study from the University Hospital Aachen.
The researchers found that 8 women who had become pregnant after egg donation had to be treated with pregnancy-induced hypertension and three out of these pregnancies had to be terminated prematurely for fear of the mother's life.

The other 5 cases showed a milder course of pregnancy-induced hypertension.

The authors recommend that patients be closely monitored by doctors with a specialization in maternofetal medicine.

The study appears in the current issue of Deutsches Arzteblatt International.
