Studies Link Seasonal Flu Shots to Influenza A (H1N1) Risk

by VR Sreeraman on Sep 26 2009 1:09 PM

Seasonal flu shots may increase the risk of catching Influenza A (H1N1), warn Canadian scientists.

The caution follows an analysis of preliminary findings from some studies, involving about 2,000 people from four Canadian provinces, which showed that people who had received the seasonal flu vaccine in the past were more likely to get sick with the A(H1N1) virus.

But these results are preliminary, and experts say that they need to be validated.

"This is some evidence that has been floated; it hasn't been validated yet, it's very preliminary," the Star Online quoted Dr. Don Low, microbiologist in chief at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, saying.
