Vadodara-based private hospital, Sterling Addlife India Limited has decided to set up a referral hospital in Africa to promote medical tourism to Gujarat.

Sterling, which recently received certification from the National Accredited Board for Hospitals and Healthcare (NABH), said that it took this decision as the highest umber of foreign patients in the hospital were from Africa.

“At present, we have over 19 to 20 patients from Africa every month. During certain periods in a year, the numbers shoot up to nearly 40 patients per month. With a local presence there, the clinic that we plan to set up will act not just as a referral unit but also will help in guidance and coordination with our hospitals here,” said Gayatri Singh, Chief Operating Officer, Sterling Addlife India Limited, Vadodara.

The referral unit may be set up in South Africa. Most patients from the continent arrive at Sterling for treatments like renal transplant, cardiac surgeries and knee transplants.
