Spurt in Crime Against Women in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack
Crime against women Bhubaneswar and Cuttack has increased by 70 percent in 2014 in as compared to the previous year, says Police Department.
What is alarming is that rape cases rose to 138 from 81. The cases of rape involving minors have gone up in the Twin City and the number of minor rape victims shot up to 76 in 2014, registering 43 percent increase over the previous year.

A total of 89 cases of eve-teasing and molestation recorded in Cuttack in 2014. However, the Capital recorded a downward trend in such cases.

Also, 143 cases of domestic violence and dowry torture were registered in 2014 as against 88 in 2013. “A rise in the number points to the fact that more women have come forward to report the atrocities and police have registered their complaints,” said Police Commissioner Dr RP Sharma

Cases of swindling involving money circulation rackets and fraud construction firms have also been a cause of concern for the Commissionerate Police. In 2014, number of swindling cases jumped to 551 from 381 in the previous year.
