
Film Independent is going green by changing its 2008 Spirit Awards into a zero-waste, eco-friendly event.
Alterations will be made in nearly every part of the ceremony, ranging from food preparation and type of food served, to differences in member viewing and voting tactics.

Furthermore, the event will make use of recycled print materials, biodiesel-fueled generators, and offer attendees a ride-share program, reports Variety.
As a replacement for paper waste, distribution company B-side will offer voting members the option to view nominated films through online streaming, and may choose to vote online as well.
The new eco-friendly 2008 Spirit Awards will take place on Feb. 23 in Santa Monica.
