Sperm Donor Issued Warning by US FDA
Trent Arsenault of Fremont is in trouble with the Federal Government for fathering 14 children in the last 5-years through free sperm donations to childless couples he meets on the Internet. In all, Arsenault has made 348 sperm donations to 46 women.
Last year, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had sent Arsenault a cease-and-desist letter asking him to stop donating sperm because he does not follow the agency’s requirements for getting tested for sexually transmitted diseases within 7-days before giving sperm. However, 36-year old Arsenault has continued donating sperm.

The FDA has asked him to stop giving away his sperm, or face a $100,000 fine or up to a year in prison, on the grounds that he has been ignoring federal regulations that require blood tests every time a person donates any kind of body tissue or fluid.

In his defense Arsenault said that he donated sperms out of a sense of service to help people who want to have children but cannot afford conventional sperm banks.

American Society for Reproductive Medicine has advised that people seeking help to start a family should go to sperm banks, which follow stringent rules for screening sperm for infectious diseases, including HIV, hepatitis B and C, and syphilis.
