The Government's cancer commissioner has said that special teams must be constituted in order to deal with the more severe effects of chemotherapy.
Mike Richards, the national director for cancer, said that many patients often suffer from fatal infections following aggressive chemotherapy and that they need to be treated urgently.
"We know that when you give chemotherapy you knock out people's immune systems and often after ten days of treatment people get sick. They can get seriously ill and an infection can be life-threatening," he told The Times.
