Special Education Teacher Faked Cancer to Get Time Off
51-year-old Leslie Herneisey a middle school special education teacher in Middletown, has been arrested by police for allegedly lying to colleagues about having an inoperable form of brain cancer.
Police claim Leslie, who was nominated three times to be Pennsylvania's teacher of the year, lied to get time off from work. She also accepted money raised by colleagues to get a free trip to Disney World.

"I think this is something that spiraled out of control and got bigger than she expected. Once you commit a falsehood as big as she did, it's kind of hard to go back on," Detective Robert Appleby of the Lower Swatara Police Department told ABC News.

Leslie’s lawyer Terrence McGowan claimed his client was clinically depressed , but he added that he did not know what plea to enter on her behalf. Leslie is due to be arraigned on August 5.
