Musical Vibrations Improve Development Of Embryo By 5% In In-Vitro Fertilization

A Spanish singer-songwriter performed a live concert to 380 embryos to boost fertilization rate at the Institut Marques IVF clinic in Barcelona.

Singer Antonio Orozco, famous throughout Spain and Latin America, played a very intimate gig last week for the 380 embryos currently gestating in the Institut Marques.

The Spanish singer strummed his guitar in front of dozens of incubators in support of the research the center is currently undertaking on the positive effects of music and embryonic and fetal development.

"It was a unique experience," said Orozco.

The research is based on the findings of a paper - "Impact of exposure to music during in Vitro culture on embryo development" - presented by the Institute two years ago at the annual meeting of the European Society for Assisted Reproduction.

The facility in Gurgaon, India, has Asia's only 'clean room IVF lab' other than Bourn Hall's Kochi facility. Inauguration expected in September.

The study showed that musical vibrations increased the rate of IVF by five percent, as well as improved the development of the embryo.

"That is why we have developed an innovative method to incorporate music in all our embryo incubators," the Institut Marques said.

In Vitro Fertilization may be Successful With Use of Synthetic Sperm Protein
Scientists have developed a synthetic version of a sperm-originated protein known as PAWP.

"With this system, we are moving forward in our efforts to reproduce in a laboratory the natural conditions embryos enjoy in utero in order to improve fertilization rates," said Marisa Lopez-Teijon, head of Assisted Reproduction.

"I think it is marvelous that Doctor López-Teijón and her team are applying this principle to their research and making sure music plays a part in life from the very first day," said Orozco.

New Technique to Improve In Vitro Fertilization Success Rates With Low Cost
Taiwanese researchers have developed a technique that could facilitate selection of the most viable embryos to implant, leading to higher IVF success rates.
