Southwest Monsoon Leads to a Rise in the Number of Dengue Cases in Kerala
The South-West monsoon has increased the number of dengue cases in Kerala, India.
Dengue cases are reported throughout the year in Kerala, the incidence peaks twice every year, during the two monsoon seasons. With the onset of monsoon in the state, dengue cases have been on rise.

This year, the number of officially suspected dengue fever cases from January 1 to May 31 this year was 1,793.

The total number of suspected dengue cases as on June 20 has increased to 4,062, with 11 suspected dengue deaths and 12 confirmed cases of dengue deaths.

From June 1 to 20 the numbers of suspected dengue cases have increased in the past 20 days alone. An average of 130 to 150 cases of dengue are reported in the state on a daily basis since June 1.

Vector control and preventive measures should be intensified to prevent the rise in the number of dengue cases.
