Social Life Boosted by Having Baby

Having a baby increases the new mum's friend-count by eight, a new study has shown.

While many women fear losing contact with friends after becoming mothers, new research revealed the contrary.

It showed that mums see a real boom in friends a month after giving birth.

"Having a baby is life changing. It can be quite daunting for new mums who may think they will lose touch with their pals," the Telegraph quoted Katie Barlow, from CLIC Sargent which polled 4,000 mums as saying.

"But in fact it appears from our survey that they gain a larger group of friends who they see much more often.

"With even more friends to fit into your life, why not host a coffee morning or a girlie night in, and have some fun with them all?" she added.

Nearly 48 per cent said their focus since giving birth has been on establishing a 'circle of trust' with friends they feel comfortable to turn to in their hour of need.

Six in 10 believed that other mums are more in tune with their thinking and behaviour that comes with being a mum.

Two thirds of the women use Facebook to keep in touch with mates and other mums.

The research was carried out to mark the launch of Yummy Mummy Week, the fundraising campaign run by the children's cancer charity CLIC Sargent.
