 Smoking - Difficult to Quit
A large number of smokers in Britain want to give up smoking but find they are unable to, according to a report brought out by the Office for National Statistics.
The report, using information from a survey of more than 13,000 people, disclosed that 63 per cent of smokers wanted to break the habit. Nevertheless, the steep decline seen in the 1970s to 1990s seemed to have leveled off and the number of smokers in the last ten years has remained fairly constant.

The significant decrease seen in the closing years of the last century was due to hard-hitting message on the harmful health effects of smoking. But there has been a resistant hardcore group of smokers whom the coalition government in Britain is targeting at in its tobacco control strategy.

The government has already used laws through bans and mandatory warning labels. It will introduce new strategies that include plain packaging.
