Smoking and Alcohol Abuse Doubles Risk of Mortality for Men

A European Union study has pointed out that excessive smoking and drinking doubles the risks of mortality for men before the age of 65. Dr Richard de Visser, from the University of Sussex, who led the study, said that there is a greater risk of abuse of drinks among men compared to women. 

Cautioning men to adopt a healthy lifestyle, Dr.Richard said: 'Lifestyles are not simply the product of individual choice. Those who are in poor material and social conditions eat less healthily, exercise less and are more likely to smoke or misuse drugs. In the context of addressing premature mortality among men, there is a growing awareness of the need for lifestyle modification in early life among men engaged in damaging health behaviours.'
