The study was led by Shannon Leung who recruited around 41 women and handed them 33 blue 3D-printed penises of different sizes. The participants were asked to choose which of them they would have selected for one-night stands and which they preferred for long term relationships.
The researchers found that women preferred penises that had larger than average girth when it came to one-night stands while there was not much difference in the length of the penises that were chosen for either one-night stands or long-term relationships; though an average length of 10cms was popular.
"Women's sexual selection may help explain why human penises are unusually thick compared to other primates. They preferred larger-girth (but not longer-length) models for one-time partners than for longer-term partners", the researchers wrote in their report.
