Situation in Swine Flu-hit Pune Out of Control

by Rajashri on Aug 14 2009 1:03 AM

Pune district collector Chandrakant Dalvi has admitted the situation in the city is rapidly going out of control following excessive number of swine flu cases here. However he said no decision had been made yet on shutting down the city.

"To provide medical assistance to patients, the administration is starting additional screening centres and also providing additional facilities like ICUs and quarantine wards at the private hospitals," said Dalvi. "At present, the city has 36 screening centres, where patients can go for treatment and consultation regarding H1N1. Also, we are providing Tamiflu tablets to every suspected patient without waiting for the results of the throat swab tests."

Eight new screening centres had been started within the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits, he added and said that 3 private hospitals have also been taken for this purpose.

Authorities are also distributing Tamiflu to suspected cases.
