Singapore Woman Dies After Liposuction Surgery in Chennai
A 35-year-old Singapore national, Alicia Medanin Khan had flown down from Singapore to Chennai for a liposuction surgery. Weighing 85 kilos, she had admitted herself to the S R Multi Speciality Hospital in Arumbakkam and died hours after she underwent the surgery.
Khan's husband, Vijayakumar, a businessman in Singapore, alleged that doctors didn't allow him to meet his wife after the surgery, stating that she had to be monitored for 24 hours, following which he was informed that she had died of a sudden cardiac arrest.

He also said that he was informed of his wife's death at 1:30 am on Thursday and his request for a written report of her condition was rejected by doctors. Alicia's body was later sent for autopsy.

Vijayakumar has alleged medical negligence as reason for his wife's death and lodged a police complaint against the doctors and the hospital management for not disclosing his wife's health before and after surgery. Police have registered a case of unnatural death for now.

The couple had come to Chennai for the surgery on November 4 and had consulted the medical team on November 6. Subsequently, her husband approached the police to seek their permission to take her body back to Singapore. Many media agencies have quoted police as saying, "We might advise him to do a post mortem before taking the body to Singapore. Only after the autopsy report, we will know if there was any medical negligence."

Reports also suggest that the woman wanted to reduce weight to increase her chances of getting pregnant.
