A slippery film which lets the sauce slide smoothly out of the bottle on to the plate, is being developed by scientists to make pouring ketchup easy.
The new substance, which is named Liquidglide, by experts in the US, is completely edible but tasteless and has no effect on food, the Sun reported.
It works on both plastic and glass and does the same job with mustard, mayonnaise and other such toppings.
According to the inventors at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a million tons of sauces and other condiments stuck at the bottom of bottles around the world are wasted every year.
They said that doing away with safety caps on the top of bottles could save 50,000 tons of plastic each year.
