University of Ilorin in Nigeria to Develop a Vaccine to Combat Ebola Virus
The Ebola Research Committee of University of Ilorin in Nigeria is working on developing a vaccine for Ebola virus.
“What is happening is that the committee is just monitoring events; in terms of the vaccine, it will take a while because there are processes that you have to follow before you develop a vaccine,” said Dr.Abdulganiyu Ambali, Vice Chancellor.

He said that it takes a lot of time to develop a vaccine as it requires several steps before the final stage.

The committee which includes medical staffs and students has been monitoring developments in neighboring countries, especially in Liberia where there was a resurgence of Ebola virus. He advised them to take necessary precautions before visiting the high-risk areas.

He also mentioned that scientists must regularly update their research findings in publications to improve the global rankings of Nigerian universities.

“Every academic should be worried about this ranking and we are doing our best to make sure that we enter that vicinity of the ranking arena. We need to increase our visibility; we need to improve on our interaction through the internet and then update our research publications. We also need to make sure that we are seen across globe as much as possible so that the world will know what is happening in our institutions,” said Ambali.
