Millions of children below the age of five in India are not getting healthy food and adequate nutrition which is stunting their growth and development, according to a report from Save the Children's 2012 Child Development Index.
This increases their risk of illness and death and affects their performance at school adversely.

Good nutrition plays a significant role in the success of the child, the ability to learn and better their lot in society. Michel Anglade, Save the Children's Asia campaigns and advocacy director said, "Political commitment, supportive policies and effective strategies are the key to success in improving children's health; some countries are taking action."
