Sanofi-Aventis in Collaboration With Columbia University for Development of Diabetes Drugs

Sanofi-Aventis has joined hands with the Columbia University Medical Center to conduct a joint research into the development of new diabetes drugs.

French pharmaceutical company Sanofi-Aventis has joined hands with the Columbia University Medical Center over a three year period to conduct a joint research into the development of new diabetes drugs.

The company will be collaborating closely with the laboratory of Gerard Karsenty who had published a paper in 2007 detailing the link between osteoblasts and blood sugar levels in the body.

Diabetes and Exercise
Regular exercise especially in type II diabetes not only helps reduce the sugar but also reduces the demand for medication by 20% and helps you stay healthy.

Sanofi Aventis’ ophthalmology division Fovea Pharmaceuticals has also entered into collaboration with Europe's Vision Institute as part of the joint research into diagnosis, prevention and treatment of ocular diseases.

The pharmaceutical giant will gain exclusive commercial rights for any drugs that are developed during the research period with both Vision Institute and the Columbia University Medical Center getting royalties.
