Saliva Production Increases in Heavy Cell Phone Users

A recent study carried out Vidhya Shikshan Prasark Mandal's Dental College and Research Centre, India, has revealed that heavy cellphone users produce more saliva which may result in more spray of saliva as they talk on the phone.

The study looked at any possible differences in the parotid glands, saliva producing system in the jaw, amongst heavy cell phone users.

The fact that the presence of a gene strongly linked to appetite regulation is highly predictive of a premature infant's readiness to feed orally was shown by Tufts Medical Center researchers.

The results points out that heavy cell phone users have larger parotid glands, with increased blood flow. Thus, they produce 26 percent more saliva especially on the side of the face normally used while talking on the cell phone.

Researchers are of the opinion that it could be the electromagnetic radiation from mobile devices which could be activating the growth of the glands and subsequent saliva production.
