Robbie Donates 1.5 Million Pounds to Help His Native People Beat Addiction

Singer/songwriter Robbie Williams has reportedly donated 1.5 million pounds for the 'Give it Sum' charity.

The 33-year-old had set the organisation in collaboration with Comic Relief, which aimed at helping drug and alcohol addicted young people in his home city Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs.

The Grammy Award-nominated singer who himself has battled drug addiction, insisted that he was 'glad' that he could help his native people.

"I'm glad the little help I give can raise the profile of things like this," the Mirror quoted Williams, as saying.

The singer revealed that he intended to participate more actively to help people at his place, where he plans to return one day.

"I want to be more active in and around Stoke-on-Trent - the place I love and where I'll eventually return to," he said.

Williams, who currently puts up in LA has donated 3 million pounds to the charity till now, by raising cash from selling platinum discs and hand-written lyrics, including hit Angels, which got 27,000 pounds.

The singer has been involved in other charity works as well, for he organised a charity football match in May 2006, to raise funds in Africa, with the help of pal actor/musician Jonathan Wilkes.
