Risk of Losing Family Payments Make Parents to Vaccinate Their Children in NSW, Australia

The number of people who vaccinate their children have reduce in NSW. After the announcement No Jab No Pay laws which will see parents who refuse to vaccinate their children lose family tax benefits and children care rebates as of next year.

Immunize Australia Program figures from the June quarter show the number of parents who refuse to vaccinate their children dropped by more than 500 in NSW. It has reduced from 9732 to 9205, capitalizing on a downward trend that has seen 1500 vaccinate their children in NSW since the beginning of the year.

The national rate of conscientious objection has fallen by 0.09 percent since last quarter (from 1.61 percent in March 2015 to 1.52 percent in June 2015). The number of conscientious objectors has fallen by over 5000 since December 2014 to a new low of 34,063.

The figures are significant because the No Jab No Pay measures were announced by Tony Abbott in April, suggesting the risk of losing family payments has made many parents to vaccinate their children in NSW.
