A new study has found that the risk of suffering a potentially fatal blood clot following surgery is present for at least three months after the operation, which means this risk is actually higher than estimated.
The risk of blood clot is always present after surgery as patients usually lie down and the circulation is sluggish in these days. However it was felt that the risk lasted for only days and not months as it has emerged now. The study of more than 947,000 British women found that the risk of blood clots is higher in hip and knee replacements, as well as surgery for cancer.
