Right-to-Live Battle: Family Produces Video to Show Man is Not in Vegetative State
The family of a 55-year old Muslim man in Britain, which has taken his right-to-live battle to court, produced a dramatic video that shows that he is not in a complete vegetative state.
The man, identified only as Mr L, suffered from cardiac arrest that left him in a vegetative state. His relatives want the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust to continue providing medical care, even taking the hospital to court to ensure that they provide him with the best possible care in case of worsening of his condition.

The relatives filmed a video in which Mr L is seen grimacing and moving his eyes and mouth when his eyes were cleaned. The judge, Mr Justice Moylan has adjourned the case until October and has ordered the hospital to resuscitate Mr L if he suffers from another heart attack.

Stating that the family feels that their stand has been vindicated, the clinical negligence solicitor with Pannone Helen Lewis said, “It is certainly a sobering thought that the Trust would have put in place a ‘Do not resuscitate’ order if the family had not have challenged their stance through the legal system.”
