A revolutionary surgery to repair torn knee cartilage promises to drastically shorten the recovery period from more than a month to just a single day.
The common practice so far in treating knee injury was to cut off the damaged tissue which not only meant that patients had to face months of rehabilitation but also increased the risk of arthritis in later life.

However doctors can now use the Ultra Fast-Fix Meniscal Repair device to stitch cartilage back into its place in a surgery taking just half an hour after which the patient is allowed to go back home after spending just a day in the hospital.

Costing around £3,000, the procedure guarantees a 90 percent chance of complete recovery. Says Dr Ian McDermott from London Sports Orthopaedics “Until relatively recently, tears in the knee had to be trimmed or chopped out - leaving the knee with a reduced or even no shock-absorber. Thankfully, we now have another option.”
