Reusable Water Bottles are as Dirty as a Toilet Seat
The water bottles we constantly refill may be just as bad as licking your toilet, finds a new research from TreadmillReviews.net.
The website reports that researchers lab-tested reusable water bottles after each had been used by an athlete for a week. They found one water bottle with over 900,000 colony forming units (CFU) per square cm on average – that is more germs than the average toilet seat.

However, researchers say the average person’s water bottle was found to have 313,499 CFU per square cm – which is still a lot of germs to be putting in your mouth and 60% of those germs on water bottles can make you sick.

The germs are caused by a lack of washing, because most people go days without properly washing out the bottles. And, the amount of germs on your water bottle may actually depend on the type of water bottle you have.

Bottles with a slide top were found to be the worst offenders while straw top bottles were found to be the cleanest, researchers said.

Though stainless steel bottles are healthier than plastic water bottles, it is ideal to wash them everyday.
