Researchers Moot Idea of Outdoor Smoking Controls in New Zealand
Restriction on smoking at cafes, restaurants and bars in New Zealand may not be very far off, going by the dangerous levels of air pollution.
Smoke tests conducted around Wellington by Otago University researchers showed high levels of pollution, about 72mcg per cubic metre of air. Further, the partially enclosed outdoor smoking areas of hospitality venues had the highest levels of fine particle pollution.

Researchers feel it is the right time to ban outdoor smoking at bars, cafes and restaurants. Keeping in mind the dangerous effect of secondhand smoke, it may be a good idea to have smoke free hospitality venues , much like the US, Australia and Canada.
