Regular Vitamin D Intake may Help Prevent Vision Loss
Increasing vitamin D intake could help people avoid age related illnesses, especially the loss of vision, a new study conducted by researchers at the Institute of Ophthalmology at University College London.
Researchers conducted the experiment on a group of middle aged mice and found that increasing the intake of vitamin D reduced the levels of toxic protein that has been linked with a number of age related illnesses including loss of vision, Alzheimer’s disease and heart diseases.

Lead researcher Professor Glen Jeffery said that while more study is needed to check whether the same is true in humans, the findings could help improve the overall health of the population and reduce the cost associated with taking care of the elderly.

“Government agencies should start paying a little bit of ¬attention to this. Vitamin D supplements could save money and improve public health. Finding amyloid deposits were reduced suggests vitamin D could be useful in preventing a range of age-related health problems, from ¬deteriorating vision to heart disease”, he said.
