Regular Consumption of Bacon Rashers may Hike Cancer Risk

A new study out of Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden has found that eating two rashers of bacon a day equates to a 19% increase in the risk of pancreatic cancer.

The study, which analyzed data from 11 studies, including 6,643 cases of pancreatic cancer, found that there was a 29% increased risk of developing pancreatic cancer among men who ate 120g of red meat per day.

Furthermore eating two rashers of bacon led to a 19% increased in cancer risk as compared to people who did not eat processed meat.

"Findings from this meta-analysis indicate that processed meat consumption is positively associated with pancreatic cancer risk. Red meat consumption was associated with an increased risk of pancreatic cancer in men. Further prospective studies are needed to confirm these findings," the researchers wrote in the study, which appears in the latest issue of the British Journal of Cancer.
