Recession Increases Risk of Child Abuse
The extreme stress due to unemployment and the ensuing financial problems can put a spoke in parenting with many parents turning harsh with their children.
A recent study showed that this trend spiked during recession, resulting in an increase in the number of child abuse cases, many children were admitted to the hospital with severe brain injuries.

Data showed that between 2004 and 2009 nearly 422 babies were admitted to the hospital with severe trauma to the head. 16% of these children actually succumbed to these injures.

Lack of patience caused by extreme stress during recessionary times may have caused parents to either shake the children so hard in a bid to control cranky and bawling children or physically abuse them in a fit of anger.

Experts felt that the only way to reduce such incidences is to step up support from the government for the unemployed.
