The data indicates that among divorce suit applicants, there is a pre-dominant majority of couples that solemnised their marriages on their own aginst their parents' wishes.
A total of 529 cases seeking dissolution of marriage have been filed with various family courts of Rawalpindi during the last six months.
The filed cases range from seeking the custody of child, demanding monthly stipend from former husband and return of dowry, according to data gathered from various family courts of the garrison city transpired.
In the last six months various family courts of Rawalpindi have issued 217 decrees for dissolving marriages, reports the Daily Times.
While the family courts ordered returning dowry of 112 divorced women, a total of 75 women were handed over the custody of their children and payment of monthly stipend is ordered to their former husbands.
During this period a total of 158 men also approached various family courts pleading the retention of their marriages.
And 99 estranged women have been allowed to go with their husbands and resume normal conjugal lives.
