Rajasthan Worried About the Rising Malaria, Dengue Cases

by VR Sreeraman on Sep 2 2007 11:28 AM

There has been an increase in the number of malaria and dengue cases across Rajasthan. Over 50 cases of malaria and eight cases of dengue have been reported from Jaipur alone last month.

Doctors here expressed concern over the increase and warned that if the situation was not tackled on an urgent basis, the situation may go out of control.

Concerned over the outbreak, the government has started to work on an action plan to fight the mosquito menace, which increases in the post-monsoon period.

"We have prepared an action plan to combat seasonal diseases in the state and are already working on these lines," a senior health department official told IANS.

"We have asked all chief medical and health officers, doctors and other staff to be on alert," the official said.

He said that the government was also planning to take the services of private doctors in remote and rural areas. As many as 3,000 private doctors may be involved in the rural areas.

Over 3,000 malaria kits have been sent to the community and health centres in the state.
