Qutb Minar Lit Blue to Create Awareness About Diabetes

The Qutb Minar was lit blue in a bid to create awareness about diabetes, ahead of World Diabetes Day Nov 14.

The 73-metre high tower of victory, built in 1193, was illuminated as a part of "Dibathon", an awareness drive undertaken by the Vedic Collection, a wellness brand promoting aroma therapy as an alternate form of medicine.

With more than 63 million diabetes patients, India is second only to China in the number of people with the condition. With a racial predisposition and rapidly changing lifestyles, India is certainly on course to become the diabetes capital of the world.

By 2030, India's diabetics numbers are expected to cross the 100-million mark, according to a 2012 report of the International Diabetes Federation.

WHO projects that in the next ten years, deaths from diabetes will increase by 35 percent.
