Soft-tissue injuries are commonly a result of sport and occupational injuries. These injuries occur as a result of many components including intrinsic, extrinsic and genetic factors. This session will emphasize the "cutting edge" of sports medicine. Dr. Schwellnus is a Professor of Sport and Exercise Medicine in the Department of Human Biology at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. He serves as the Director of the International Olympic Committee Research Center in Cape Town as well as being the Director of the FIFA Medical Center of Excellence in Cape Town. His research interests include sports injury epidemiology, prevention, diagnosis and management; medical conditions that occur during sports participation, in particular, endurance events; as well as physical activity in the primary and secondary prevention of chronic disease of lifestyle.
