by Hannah Punitha on Apr 24 2008 4:59 PM

Pharmaceutical Advisory Forum on Wednesday recommended that generic-generic drugs of cetrizine, omeperazole and nimuslide must be brought under price control.

The forum that has been constituted under the Chairmanship of Minister for Chemicals, Fertilisers and Steel Ram Vilas Paswan also urged the State Governments to issue directions to doctors in government hospitals to prescribe only generic-generic medicines.

It was also recommended that as a result of reduction in excise duty from 16 per cent to eight per cent, all drug companies should reduce the prices of their medicines by 4.58 per cent.

The form also said recommended opening to generic drug stores initially one in each district with drugs being supplied from Pharma PSUs.

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority will start a 24 hour call centre with the toll free number shortly for registering complaints on medicine prices. The call centre will also guide the caller on the complaints lodged by them.
